Abstract

The development of Next-Generation Sequencing technologies lead to dramatically decreased sequencing costs and increased throughput, enabling use of sequencing for many applications that would not have been possible without NGS. This includes frequently used protocols like gene expression analysis by sequencing or genome-wide analysis of transcription factor binding which require millions of sequence reads. In this talk a brief overview over the major NGS technologies is given, highlighting some of the advantages and disadvantages of the different technologies and showing examples for use of NGS in life sciences.
